Pre-Conference Workshops

The Nature of Teaching

The Nature of Teaching is a signature ANR Purdue Extension program that provides K-5 teachers and extension educators with hands-on, standards-based resources to get youth outside and learning in nature. Workshop participants will learn about the three core areas of this program-wildlife, health and wellness, and food waste-and act out some of the activities from the lessons. All participants will walk away with a collection of resources to take back to their classroom. The Nature of Teaching resources can also be found online at https://ag.purdue.edu/extension/nature/Pages/default.aspx‚Äč.

ICAN Swarm

Join the Indiana Children And Nature Network for a pre-conference meeting from 9 to noon. Meet other people working to get kids outside, brainstorm ways to extend the mission into new communities, get ideas on how to build the network in your area. Share great ways to engage kids and families in nature play. Be a part of the network to get kids outside! Nature kids are happier, healthier and smarter.

This meeting is for anyone who believes in the importance of encouraging kids and families to spend more time outdoors! Formal and informal educators, health professionals, parks staff, early childhood educators, and more are welcome.
