Guidelines for Excellence Training (August 13, 2026)

Bora Simmons of the North American Association for Environmental Education will provide attendees with in-depth training on the NAAEE's Environmental Education Programs: Guidelines for Excellence. Attendees will also receive a printed copy of the publication.

Environmental Education Programs: Guidelines for Excellence comprises a set of recommendations for developing and administering high-quality environmental education programs. These recommendations provide a tool that can be used to ensure a firm foundation for new programs or to inform improvements in existing ones. Calumet Educators Collaborative (September 15, 2026)

Join leadership from the Environmental Education Associations of Illinois and Indiana for a day of professional learning and networking with educators from across the Calumet Region. Educators from Indiana's Department of Natural Resources will present activities from Project WET, Project WILD, and Project Learning Tree that support this year's theme of "Environmental Education to Inspire Action and Optimism." A lively round of 'resource speed dating' and guided roundtable discussions will create opportunities to explore the region's support systems and generate ideas for getting students outdoors.

We will have coffee and light snacks available in the morning and a warm lunch will be provided.

Fall 2026 eeCOURSE: Foundations in Teaching Environmental Education (September 20, 2026)

Welcome to EEAI's first eeCourse! In this six-week online course, you will learn the fundamentals of developing and executing effective Environmental Education programs for any audience. The course is presented in five modules:

What Are the Foundations of EE?
How Do You Create an Effective EE Learning Environment?
How Can I Include All Learners in EE?
How Do I Select, Adapt, or Develop Effective Educational Materials?
What Are Effective EE Strategies?

Each module includes relevant readings, journal entries, and written assignments, and the course culminates in a teaching episode in which each participant applies what they've learned by leading an in-person EE lesson with an audience of their choice. The course requires about 12 - 15 hours of work and will be moderated by an experienced EE professional who will provide scoring and constructive feedback on assignments throughout the term. While this is an asynchronous course, it is time-limited, so participants are required to finish within the stated timeframe to receive their completion certificate. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to participate in three synchronous virtual calls with their cohort to learn from each other, provide mutual support, and facilitate network building within the Indiana EE community.

Meet your Moderator: Jamin Bray has served as the co-director and professional development coordinator for Missouri's NAAEE affiliate, the Missouri Environmental Education Association. She has moderated all of the eeCOURSES offered in Missouri, as well as courses offered in Nebraska and Arkansas. Jamin has also worked to co-create new eeCOURSES for NAAEE and the affiliate network. Before coming to MEEA, Jamin worked as an interpreter at the Midwest Science Center, for Missouri State Parks, and for the National Park Service. Jamin also has experience with formal education, having worked as a 5th - 8th grade science teacher.

2026 EEAI Annual Conference (November 13, 2026)

Join EEAI this fall at Ball State University for our 2026 Annual Conference. This year's theme is "From Schoolyard to Stewardship: Educational Pathways to Green Futures." Presenter sessions and field trips will focus on four tracks that will complement our conference setting on campus, and we're excited to welcome BSU's own Dr. Tom McConnell as our keynote speaker this year!
